Dear Anonymous,

I don't know how you answered on the test, but I do know this: At some point you should have read something that asked if you wanted to proceed with the test as if you were taking it for what it was, a test to see if you're good enough to get into heaven.

Read the title of this article, and the title of the link to the test. I can assure you of this: If there is one ounce of a person that thinks they're good enough to get into heaven, they're not going to heaven when they die!

I do have a couple of concerns with what you just posted. They'll likely lead to some deeper discussions, so if you'd like me to call or email you, take the test again and leave your contact info at the end. I'm the only one that'll see it.

I just took your test, I answered all the questions truthfully. I am 28 years old. I have been saved now for 2 years by confessing my sins, confessing that Jesus' death and resurrection was the penalty for my sins, asking forgiveness of my sins, asking God to take my whole life, being baptized as an outward showing of an inward change, and now I have dedicated my life to seeing God change others lives (especially the youth) for His Kingdom. I feel the Holy Spirit in my life every second of it. I know it is the Holy Spirit because I spent 26 years without it. I seek his face daily in prayer and by reading His word.

I was surprised to discover that the results of your test had me going to hell. Is hell not reserved for the sinners? I have been forgiven and my payment for my sins has been paid by the sinless sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Please explain, in depth if you would, why I am going to hell. Thank you, and please hurry because I want to get this taken care of ASAP.

Well, at least I’ll be with everyone else in Hell. Nice to know I won’t be alone.
-Anonymous

Dear Anonymous,

Hypothetical- If I paid you a million dollars, would you spend the rest of your life in a maximum security prison for me (with no hope of escape)?

I, for one, have no desire to ever go to prison, let alone a maximum security one. The Bible tells us that, while here on earth, God prevents sin, Satan and his demons from having complete reign. It also indicates that we're not as bad as we would be if His hand weren't on us. Do you really want to be in a place filled with no laws from society, no law enforcement, complete anarchy, and people that have no conscience to restrict them?

It sounds like you didn't read what the Bible has to say about hell. Try taking the test again, but PLEASE read the verses that describe hell.

I believe it was the book The Sea Wolf that used a phrase, "Better to reign in hell than serve in heaven." A lot of people have this impression that hell with be filled with people who like to get drunk, have sex, party, and have fun, so they'll all have a no-holds-barred party in hell, together.

PARTYING- There won't be any partying because it will be black. You won't be able to see. If you wouldn't sell your eyes for a million bucks here on earth, please consider the reality of eternal darkness in hell.

HANGING OUT WITH OTHER "FUN" PEOPLE- Hell (the Lake of Fire) is described as a place of torment, where you're given a new body that will allow you to suffer eternity burning in flames, where you'll be encompassed with the smell of burning sulfur and worms that never die. Please consider the seriousness of it.

everyone sins its a natural thing. but if your truly sorry and love god and try to better yourself, he’ll forgive you

-Anonymous

Dear Anonymous,

Imagine that some guy brutally raped and murdered members of your family, and that person is caught and brought to trial. The guy says to the judge, "Judge, I know I did it. I'm guilty, but I'm truly sorry, and I'm trying to better myself."

Will the judge let the guy go?

The only way the judge will let that guy go is if he's a corrupt judge, or if the man on trial was actually found innocent. There must be justice, so the man must pay for his crime. God says that He isn't corrupt, but that He'll judge justly. That means our crimes must be paid for. No amount of trying to better ourselves can help us, and no amount of being sorry for our sins can help. We're all given a conscience to alert us of our sin, and we all feel bad for breaking our conscience, until we've done it so many times it's seared.

The good news is that Jesus did pay for our crime, but we must repent (decide to turn from all sin) and put our full trust in him to pay for our sins. If we trust in ourselves to better ourselves, we're putting our faith in our own works to save us, and we'll still be judged as an enemy of God's on Judgment Day. No matter how hard we try, we'll continue to sin, storing up God's wrath for our judgment (Romans 2:5-6). God says that the best of what we have to offer to Him is nothing more than a filthy rag (Isaiah 64:6).

God preaches Mercy and repentance but I see none of that in your test.

Dear Anonymous,

Since repentance is mentioned in this test (both the word and description), I can only assume you're referring to mercy.

It would be wrong of me to mention God's mercy to someone who thinks they're a good person, especially someone who thinks they might be good enough to go to heaven. Mercy, by definition, is not receiving the punishment we deserve. Most people will receive the punishment they deserve! Most people have never had the Law stop their mouths from justifying their sinfulness; they've never seens themselves in light of a perfectly Holy and Just God who will judge them in righteousness on the Day of Judgment (John 16:8-11; Revelation 21:8; 1 Corinthians 6:9-10).

Unfortunately, most people refuse to repent and submit to Jesus as their Master, and God says that they will not receive mercy. In fact, He declares them enemies of His (James 4:4), and says He's storing up His wrath to pour on them on Judgment Day (Romans 2:5-6)!

If God chooses to grant someone contrition and repentance, His mercy will not be able to be overlooked by that person. If I tell people about God's mercy while they're still proud in their sins (James 4:6; Proverbs 3:34; I Peter 5:5; Psalm 34:18), I'm worse than someone who points a blind man towards a pit of lava and tells him it's a safe direction!
